How do I fully remove SlashImage and its data?
2 min read · Last updated June 2026
Deleting SlashImage clears its scheduled tasks and working caches, but leaves your settings, optimization records, and images in place. If you want a full wipe, turn on Remove all data when plugin is deleted before you delete the plugin.
Deactivate vs delete
- Deactivate turns the plugin off but keeps everything. Reactivate any time and nothing is lost.
- Delete removes the plugin and runs its cleanup. Use this when you are done with it for good.
What deleting removes and keeps
By default, deleting the plugin only clears its background task schedule and working caches. It leaves behind:
- Your settings and optimization preferences
- Per-image optimization records and stats
- Any server-rewrite rules SlashImage added to
.htaccess - All image files, WebP and AVIF variants, and your backups under
uploads/slash-image-backups/
This means reinstalling later picks up where you left off with no data loss.
Wipe everything
- Go to Media > SlashImage and open the Settings tab.
- Scroll to the Danger Zone and turn on Remove all data when plugin is deleted. Its help text reads "Off by default. Uninstalling SlashImage normally keeps your settings, stats, and per-attachment data so you can reinstall later without losing anything."
- Delete the plugin from your Plugins list.
On top of the minimal cleanup, this also removes all SlashImage settings and preferences, optimization stats, per-image optimization records, and the server-rewrite block from .htaccess.
