Does SlashImage resize my large images?
1 min read · Last updated June 2026
Only if you turn it on. SlashImage can scale an oversized original down to a maximum size before optimizing it, but the feature is off until you enable Resize large images in the settings.
Turn on resizing
- Go to Media > SlashImage and scroll to the Resize section.
- Switch on Resize large images ("Scale down images that are bigger than the size you set.").
- Set Maximum dimensions - a maximum width and height in pixels. The default is
2560by2560. - Click Save changes.
What resizing does
- It only touches the full-size original. The thumbnail, medium, and large copies WordPress creates are untouched.
- It keeps the image's proportions. The image is fitted inside your maximum width and height, so neither side exceeds your limit and nothing is stretched.
What can go wrong
- You want the full-size original back. Restoring an image puts its original dimensions back, as long as you kept a backup. See How do I restore my original images?.
