About SlashImage
Most websites are slower than they should be, and the usual culprit is images that are far bigger than they need to be. SlashImage fixes that. It makes your images far smaller, often around 80 percent and sometimes as much as 99 percent, while keeping them sharp enough that your visitors never see the difference.
Why I built it
Hi, I'm Garry. I build and run web products, and image optimization was always the same frustrating story.
I'd shot a set of photos I was genuinely proud of, ran them through a popular optimizer, and watched a smooth blue sky break into ugly bands of color. The file was smaller, sure. It also looked broken. What bothered me was that the whole industry seemed to have quietly accepted that “optimized” could mean “worse.” I didn't agree.
I wanted a tool that took quality seriously, stayed simple enough for someone who isn't technical, and didn't punish you for growing. I couldn't find it, so I built it.
What makes it different
I care about quality first. I spend something like 95 percent of my time on a single problem: shrinking images as far as they'll go while keeping them looking right. The shrinking is the easy part. Doing it without images going soft or blotchy is the hard part, and that's where the work goes. Your photos stay sharp and your graphics stay clean.
It works wherever you do. On WordPress, install the plugin and forget about it. Building something custom? The same engine is available through a simple API.
