What do the web compressor tool errors mean?

These messages come from the drag-and-drop compressor tool at slashimage.com, where you can compress images directly without WordPress. They are separate from the plugin and will not appear in your WordPress admin.

Use Cmd+F (Mac) or Ctrl+F (Windows) to jump straight to the wording you saw.

Errors and limits

  • Image is larger than N MB. (where N is the per-image limit for the tool you are using) — the image is too big. Shrink it and try again.
  • Daily compression limit reached (N/day). Resets at midnight UTC. Upgrade to Unlimited to remove the cap., or You've used all your daily compressions. Resets at midnight UTC. — you've hit the tool's daily limit. Wait for the reset at midnight UTC, or upgrade to remove the cap. See what happens when you hit your limit.
  • You can compress up to 10 images at a time. — you added too many images at once. Compress them in smaller batches.
  • Total batch size exceeds 200 MB. — the files you added add up to more than the tool allows in one go. Remove some and try a smaller batch.

When you drop a file the tool can't accept, it shows a reason next to that file:

  • (file is empty) — the file has no content.
  • (max N MB per image) — that single file is over the per-image limit for the tool you are using.
  • (unsupported format) — the file type isn't one the tool accepts.
